In an exhilarating match of Futsal, Batch 2023 took home the victory with a score of 2-1 against Batch 2022 at the SSLA court on Friday, 29th April.
Right from the start, Batch 2023 tried asserting their dominance by employing an aggressive offense seen in the brilliant performances of forwards Nandini Tupe and Sorashi Sharma. In retaliation, Batch 2022 took an unflinching defensive stand.
In Tupe’s words,” I went about it by trying to recognise what would be the most suitable position for each player to play at through practices. From that, I came up with a formation that would work best.” In retaliation, Batch 2022 took an unflinching defensive stand in which Akanksha Mugdal and Somalika Chabra played a vital role.
The game’s first goal came as a result of a blunder by goalkeeper Divyashree L. Amoli Birewar from Batch 2022 capitalized on this error.
By the beginning of the second half, Batch 2022 decided to change tactics and tried to put up an aggressive attack. A gorgeous throw by Chetana Bisht found Siddhi Sathpati in the open but failed to finish. Goalkeeper Meghal Mundada took advantage of this turnover, playing a throw to Nandini Tupe who played a gorgeous cross to Sorashi Sharma to tie the score 1-1 sending waves of cheers from their fellow batchmates.
In the last minutes of the game, Chetana scored a goal by weaving through the defenders in an attempt to break the lead. However, the goal was disallowed by the referee sending the supporter of Batch 2023 into a raging fit.
A few moments later, Sharma won the game with a daring shot, a few yards away from the halfline. To everyone’s surprise, the laser-like ball found the bottom right corner of the goal, putting the final nail in the coffin of Batch 2022’s chances of winning.
