MY FIRST DAY AT SYMBIOSIS CENTRE FOR MEDIA & COMMUNICATION (SCMC)

MY FIRST DAY AT SYMBIOSIS CENTRE FOR MEDIA & COMMUNICATION (SCMC)

My first day at college was no less than a turning point. An unforgettable day indeed. During school days, I had a glimpse of college life through my cousins and senior friends which only made me curiously wait for my college to commence. I had drawn a picture of it in my head – freedom, no restrictions, amazing group of friends, the threat of teachers would be little, and the entire system of working would be relaxed. Similar to the reel depiction of the same. At last the day I had longed for came.

I secured admission in Symbiosis Centre for Media and Communication (SCMC), Pune. I entered the college premises with new hopes and aspirations. I came across many unknown faces and gladly a few known faces from school. However, to my surprise, college was much different than what I had expected it to be.

On the first day, we were told to wear western formals. The following day, the centre T-shirt and then Indian formals. It took me a little time to realise that it was a ‘dress code’ which we were to follow every day!  Moreover, on defaulting, we were given detention. The surprises did not end there, we were informed about how the college works and the do’s and don’ts of it. It burst my bubble. College was the exact opposite of what my expectations. However, with time I realized all these strict rules and regulations make this college the number one college for media and communications in India.

As the day progressed, I found out the method of teaching in college is different from that of school as every course is taught by a specialized and experienced professors from the industry. With time, I started gaining keen interest in the courses I was learning. I could sense something great was coming, ‘The next three years are going to be the best ones of my life, full of experience and knowledge.’ I concluded.

My parents always say, ‘Whatever happens in college stays with you forever and it is the best thing that can happen to you. You create beautiful memories, both good and bad, make amazing friends and most importantly, learn how to be independent and communicate to anyone and everyone.’

SCMC strives to bring out the best in every student and believes that every student has the potential to do great. This college did the same to me. Every day is a new opportunity full of excitement and challenges. This college not only made me independent but also made me more responsible and taught me how to adapt to different situations.
