Actor Delzad Hiwale, fresh from critical success of Chhapaak, was at his alma mater to speak to students about the struggle and hard work it takes to make it big in the film industry. An SCMC graduate of Batch 2018, Delzad had a long interaction with first year students, giving them a glimpse into the inner workings of the industry based on his experiences working on films like Chittagong (2012), Hindi Medium (2017) and more.
He began with the question: “Which is more important; planning or improvisation?” which he answered pragmatically throughout the session with examples and anecdotes from his professional experiences. Delzad believes that a judicious mix of both is extremely crucial. He also talked about how one can make things around them become negative to seek inspiration, or one can make everything around them positive to make things work. He used the example of the contrasting character arcs of ‘Gully Boy’ and ‘Rockstar’ to illustrate this. “Either way, hard work will always be the connecting factor to reach the summit of success,” he said.
Delzad’s motto of “be yourself and be real” while going forward has always been a vital part of his life which has helped him get to where he is today. He believes that struggle is important if one wants to succeed in life as it helps to teach the person lessons which a normal textbook cannot.
Despite having worked with various big stars like Anushka Sharma, Deepika Padukone, Irrfan Khan and others, Delzad still continues to be humble and down-to-earth as he believes it will help him to always treat new experiences as new, and keep growing as an actor and also as a human being.
