My Body is Not Your Crime Scene

10

so I honestly don’t remember

waking up one day-

maybe a Tuesday

maybe something more exciting…a Friday?

-and going

you know what

I’d love to be oppressed

starting from today

till

the end of my life

I’m genuinely unable to recall

on what ominous day

I felt the sizzling desire

to choose

vehement degrees of marginalization

a weekly spot in the papers saying one of us has been killed or brutalized again

and the voice in my head going-

this could be you

this could be you

I absolutely do not know

why I would ever

make the morbid choice

of gender dysphoria

piercing through my bones

while I adjust

in a body

that will never

be non-binary

listen

if alternate universes exist

you are in one of them

maddeningly tired

of

cisgender heterosexual binaries

policing which box your body

should fit into

and how much space

you should be taking

if alternate universes exist

you are in one of them

terrified

because you are constantly told

that having your heart flutter

and stomach drop

when she walks by

is nothing but an unnatural system error

if alternate universes exist

you are in one of them

screaming yourself hoarse

that you did not choose

to be a crime
