IF YOU ASK ME, WHAT I AM AFTER THREE SEMESTERS AT SCMC

If you ask me, I’ll tell you that a hundred things can change your life, right education is one

‘Best Colleges for Mass Communication in India’, these are the exact words which I typed on the Google search bar two years ago and I think thousands of other people must have typed the same. It’s not easy, if you ask me. I’ll tell you that as names have power, words too have power. Words can light fires in the minds of people and can wring tears from the hardest of hearts; I’ll tell you that words can tell you a story, I’ll tell you that words will help you cope with pain, I’ll tell you that words will help you understand and I’ll also tell you that there are other ways of understanding. If you ask me, I’ll tell you that a hundred things can change your life, right education is one. If you ask me again, I’ll tell you that it’s not easy.

I’ll tell you why.

It’s not easy because when you educate yourself, you leave behind your older self. It’s not easy because the workings of the world start to seem wrong and you live with a constant itch to turn all the wrongs into rights and it’s hard because you cannot. But that itch is enough, sometimes. I’ll tell you that it’s not easy to stay away from home, I’ll tell you it’s not easy eating alone for the first time and many times after that. I’ll tell you that it’s not easy to blend in if you are too shy to speak and to ask questions. If you ask me what I was and what I am now, how was it? I’ll tell you that it was not easy to become what I am now. But I’ll also tell you that it was not that hard too.

I’ll tell you that if you want to become the best, like this college where I’m studying. You will have to be the best and that’s not easy. And that’s not that hard too.  Like the words, ‘The Best Mass Communication Colleges in India’, to really mean it, you’ll have to be true to your name. It’s the hardest and the easiest thing to do, if you’ll ask me.

Now, if you’ll ask me what I am after three semesters at SCMC, Pune. I’ll tell you that I’m not a stranger to myself anymore and that’s what, if you are reading this, should also try to be.
